Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is overwhelmed with emotions in connection with the successful start of the comic book movie “Superman“, which grossed an impressive $217 million worldwide in its opening weekend. For Zaslav, who took over from Warner Bros. Discovery more than three years ago, the success was a testament to his decision to put James Gunn and Peter Safran in charge of DC Studios, and in a statement, he expressed his delight that writer and director James Gunn’s vision was brought to life in the first film in the new DC Universe, and how audiences reacted to it.
“Three years ago, I commissioned James Gunn and Peter Safran to be a team to find and reimagine DC’s creative direction and breathe new life into one of the most iconic franchises in the world. This weekend, we watched Superman Take off, as James Gunn’s passion and vision came to life on the big screen. “Superman” is only the first step. In the coming year, DC Studios will show “Supergirl: The Woman of Tomorrow” and “Clayface” in theaters, as well as present the series “Lanterns” on HBO Max, according to a bold 10-year plan. At the moment, DC can boast of a clear vision, a real momentum, and I am incredibly excited about what lies ahead,” said David Zaslav.
In turn, James Gunn thanked the viewers who watched “Superman” on social networks: “I am incredibly grateful to you for your enthusiasm and all your kind words said over the past few days. Over the years, Superman has had a lot of ‘super’ stuff, and I’m happy that my film focuses on the second part of the equation – a kind person who will always take care of those in need.”
