The new action/adventure movie Superman had a great first weekend at the box office, going straight to the top.
The Numbers say that superhero fans paid about $122 million to see the new action-adventure when it first came out.
The adventure movie featuring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel got an 82% rating from critics and an even higher score of 93% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie made an extra $95 million around the world, but it didn’t do as well there. This could be because of the current political situation between the US and the rest of the world.
“Superman has always been seen as an American character, and in some parts of the world, America isn’t exactly popular right now,” David A. Gross of the movie consulting company FranchiseRe told Variety.
Gross liked how director James Gunn focused on the story instead of counting on big stars to bring people in.
“This is the first comic book hero story about a flawed all-American who fights evil with his special powers.” That arc is stable and easy to understand, he said.
Because of that and the fact that it already had a big fan base, Superman had the third best start of 2025, after A Minecraft Movie, which has made over $955 so far, and the live-action Lilo & Stitch, which is still in the top 10 after eight weeks.
Jurassic World Rebirth, which was last week’s winner, fell to a distant second place and made an additional $40 million in the United States.
Critics didn’t like the latest movie in the series, but viewers did pretty well with it. This may be because Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey were in it.
The dinosaur story has made almost $530 million around the world so far.
In its third week in theatres, F1: The Movie, which stars Brad Pitt, Idris Elba, and Javier Bardem, crossed the finish line in third place. The high-octane adventure won a prise worth $13 million in the United States.
From what we can tell, F1 has done much better on the foreign market, where it has won $252.2 million, for a total of $393,395,000.
There were a lot of people in theatres over the weekend to see the live-action version of the 2010 cartoon hit How to Train Your Dragon.
The action-adventure movie made an extra $7.8 million in ticket sales in the United States. Around the world, the famous story has made nearly $561 million, making it just as popular as it is in the US.
The last person in the top five was Elio. The Disney animated story about a boy who is crazy about space and meets aliens from space made $3.9 million.
The movie didn’t do as well as some other Disney/Pixar movies; it only made $63 million in the US and $53 million around the world.
The animated movie The Smurfs, which stars Rihanna, Jimmy Kimmel, James Corden, and Octavia Spencer as voices, will come out next week and give Superman a lot of company.
On Friday, Freddie Prinze Jr. stars in the scary movie I Know What You Did Last Summer, which also has new victims Chase Sui Wonders and Jonah Hauer-King.
